March 2013

At last, part of Nagoya Castle Hommaru Palace will be opening to the public on Wednesday, May 29, 2013!
Nagoya Castle was built by the order of Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612 for Owari Tokugawa Family, and it symbolizes Nagoya's pride and power. There are exhibits describing the lifestyle of the local lords in the castle tower (main donjon). Visitors can see the reconstruction project being performed on the Hommaru Palace. Hommaru Palace (the residence of the castle lord), which burned down during the war, was second only to Kyoto's Nijo Castle in splendor. Reconstruction is currently underway, and the first part of Hommaru Palace will open to the public on May 29, 2013.
