Enjoy Nagoya During Golden Week!

Golden Week is a long consecutive holiday vacation, and it spans 10 days from 4/27 to 5/6 in 2019 with a number of sightseeing facilities within Nagoya remaining open everyday throughout the holiday period. (Please note that many are closed on Tuesday, May 7.)
Let us offer you our recommendations for enjoyable events during Nagoya's Golden Week vacation.

Nagoya Sightseeing Route Bus Me~guru

Nagoya Sightseeing Route Bus Me~guru, which stops around Nagoya's main sightseeing facilities such as Nagoya Castle and Nagoya City Science Museum, will be running everyday during Golden Week.
*Running according to the schedule for Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. Not in operation on Tuesday, May 7.

Period: Now-May 6

Special Opening of the Northwest Corner Turret, an Important Cultural Property

Period: April 27-May 6
Hours: 9:00 AM-5:15 PM (Admission until 5:00 PM)
Location: Northwest corner turret

The northwest corner turret, remaining from the Edo period, is being specially opened to the public.
*The southwest corner turret is always open.
Nagoya Castle's main castle tower is encompassed by three corner turrets to its southeast, southwest, and northwest. These turrets were used as food and weapons storage as well as guard towers. Take this chance to catch a view of Nagoya from a corner turret.

Special Exhibition of "Famed Swords Conferred by the Tokugawa Shoguns" at the Tokugawa Art Museum

Period: April 17-June 5 *Open throughout Golden Week
*Admission fee required.

Get an introduction to all 114 of the famous swords passed down to the Owari Tokugawa clan from generations of shoguns. Some swords from the Sumpu Owakemono, the relics of Tokugawa Ieyasu, are also on display (exhibition changes may occur).

■Golden Week Special Event (Warrior Wielding a Sword Commemorative Photography Corner)

Period: Wednesday, May 1 (national holiday)-Sunday, May 5 (national holiday)
Hours: 11:00 AM-3:00 PM

Chances to touch helmets and model swords, as well as commemorative photography are available.
*Participation by attendees to the museum is optional (additional fee to admission required)

Noritake Garden's "Garden Carp Streamers"

Period: April 6-May 31

Approximately 50 colorful carp streamers swim in the air, hung between Noritake Garden's six symbolic chimney monuments.


Belgian Beer Weekend

Period: April 24-May 6
Hours: 4:00 PM-9:00 PM on weekends / 11:00 AM-9:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays
Location: Hisaya-Odori Park (Edion Hisaya Plaza and Angel Plaza)

Enjoy yourself just like it was the weekend in Belgium with Belgian beer, food, music, and more during these 13 days!


The Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium's Golden Week Night Aquarium

*Admission fee required.

The aquarium hours are lengthened to 8:00 PM during the Golden Week period. Enjoy the Dolphin Performance starting from 7:00 PM as dolphins perform against a nighttime backdrop in this special atmosphere.
We also recommend checking out the Sea Turtle Migration Tank, renovated this spring.
The "Sushi Topping Gathering: The Aquarium Slices into Everything Sushi!" special exhibition gathers together marine life used for the toppings of Japanese cuisine's iconic food--sushi. (Until June 2.)


Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens Spring Festival

Period: Now-May 6
*Admission fee required.

This year marks the 35th year since koalas came to the zoo. Don't miss the new baby koala who just started to show her face in 2019.
On Sundays during the Spring Festival, the giraffe pen's observation deck will be opened, letting you observe details all the way down to giraffes' eyelashes and tongues. (9:00 AM-4:00 PM)
