Hommaru Palace entrance and Omote-shoin(main drawing room) are now opened to the public!

Nagoya Castle was built by the order of Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612 for Owari Tokugawa Family, and it symbolizes Nagoya's pride and power. There are exhibits describing the lifestyle of the local lords in the castle tower (main donjon). Visitors can see the reconstruction project being performed on the Hommaru Palace. Hommaru Palace (the residence of the castle lord), which burned down during the war, was second only to Kyoto's Nijo Castle in splendor.

The reconstruction of the Hommaru Palace adjacent to the donjon will further increase the value and appeal of Nagoya Castle and will enable us to handover these impressive cultural assets to the next generation. The palace's restoration will also contribute to the revitalization of Nagoya in this new era of exchange.

Reconstruction is currently underway, and the first part of Hommaru Palace is opened to the public on May 29, 2013. The whole area of the Hommaru Palace will be fully unveiled in 2018, followed by the second opening in 2016 and the third opening in 2017.
