Recommended summer events at Tokugawa Art Museum and Tokugawaen

Event information:
The Tokugawa area of Higashi-ku, Nagoya is home to a beautiful Japanese garden packing in Japan's natural landscapes as well as a museum where you can view famous pieces from the Owari Tokugawa clan--particularly artifacts of the late Tokugawa Ieyasu. We recommend two ways to spend your time in the Tokugawa area, where you can come into contact with the history and culture of Japan, this summer.

The special "Scenes of Battle--Depictions of Brave Warriors of the Past--" summer exhibition

The special "Scenes of Battle--Depictions of Brave Warriors of the Past--" summer exhibition began on 7/27 at the Tokugawa Art Museum. Various civil war battle scenes from long ago during the Warring States period are depicted. These scenes of battle were cherished not only as picture scrolls, but also other various forms such as folding screens, hanging scrolls, albums, and booklets. This exhibition offers a spot to see how the battle scenes of the tumultuous Warring States period were organized and illustrated, and shines a light on the role and meaning held by the battle scenes which were continuously illustrated one after another since the Middle Ages.

During your trip out to the Tokugawa Art Museum, enjoy the offerings of the next-door Nagoya Hosa Library and Tokugawaen.

Evenings of Coolness and Relaxation at Tokugawaen

Tokugawaen is a Japanese garden encircling a pond located at its center which depicts the ocean, and can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons. The waterfall and streams utilize the differences in elevation to create an enjoyable, dynamic landscape.

For five days from 8/10 to 8/14, the garden is open until a later 8:30 PM. The area is enveloped in a magical aura when lanterns are lit and sent out to float on Ryusenko Pond. Cool off and enjoy yourself for a while in this illuminated nighttime garden.

The Nagoya Sightseeing Route Bus Me~guru is a convenient way to go out to the Tokugawa area from Nagoya Station and Nagoya Castle.
