Toyota Collection Special Exhibition: “Japonisme in Bloom: Civilization and Enlightenment in Technology and Art”

Beginning in Paris and sweeping across Europe in the wake of the 1873 Vienna World’s Fair, “Japonisme” was underpinned by Japan’s overwhelming craftsmanship.
This exhibition presents artworks and craft objects from the Edo to Meiji periods from the Toyota Collection, viewed through the lens of “monozukuri” craftsmanship.
We invite you to experience the world of art and technology that flourished in an age when Japanese and Western cultures intersected.
We also offer hands-on art experiences created using Edo-period techniques.
