Temple Café “Ma no Ma”

“Experiential café” located inside Banshoji Temple in Osu, Nagoya

“Ma” as a moment in time to savor the true taste and aroma of Japanese tea. “Ma” as a space where you can experience freshly prepared Japanese tea.
We named it “Manoma” with the hope that you will enjoy both time and space.

We are committed to local production for local consumption, limiting the Japanese tea we use to teas from the Tokai region.
In addition to Japanese tea, we also offer other drinks and sweets, so you can choose according to your mood at the moment.

Please enjoy the time and space of sitting on tatami and drinking tea while feeling the warmth of pottery, in the setting of a temple—a place many people tend to think they would not normally enter.

Check Point!!

  • You can enjoy a luxurious sense of space and time within the temple—something hard to come by in everyday life.
  • We offer hands-on menu options where guests can whisk their own matcha or brew tea using a teapot.
  • Our hands-on matcha, sencha, and hojicha menu options are served with Banshoji Temple’s specialty, the “Migawari Mochi.”
Senju

Senju (with substitute mochi)
This tea (sencha) is characterized by a rich, lingering umami and a vivid green color. Made with early-picked young leaves, it has a delicate and refined finish.
You can enjoy three or more infusions, so please savor the gradual changes in flavor and aroma.
You may choose it hot or cold.

Matcha Experience

Matcha Experience (with Migawari Mochi)
This is an experiential menu in which guests prepare the matcha themselves.
Please enjoy the fresh, rich umami of carefully selected tea leaves.
It pairs beautifully with the sweetness of Banshoji Temple’s specialty, “Migawari Mochi,” while our carefully chosen tea utensils add a special touch to the moment.

Matcha Latte / Hojicha Latte

Matcha Latte / Hojicha Latte (Hot/Ice)
A tea latte with the rich flavor of matcha and hojicha.
The hot latte is adorned with the Oda family crest, to which it has a special connection.
