Nagakute Battlefield Memorial Museum
See it, feel it, and pass down the story of the Battle of Nagakute.
In Tensho 12 (1584), a “decisive battle that would determine the fate of the nation” took place in Nagakute. It was the Battle of Nagakute, fought between the forces of Hashiba Hideyoshi (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi), who would later become the ruler of the realm, and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The Nagakute Battlefield Memorial Museum stands adjacent to the Nagakute Ancient Battlefield, a nationally designated historic site that was the main battleground. Through digital content and historical materials that convey the sense of distance between the battle-related sites and the immediacy of the battlefield, visitors can experience the stage of history firsthand.
One of the highlights of our museum is a restored reproduction of the Folding Screen Depicting the Battle of Nagakute (one six-panel screen) (original in the collection of the Tokugawa Art Museum, Tokugawa Reimeikai Foundation). This reproduction was commissioned from Aichi University of the Arts and created using the techniques and materials of the Edo period, when the original screen was painted. It depicts not only famous commanders, but also unnamed soldiers, as well as nature such as mountains, rivers, and flowers, allowing each visitor to enjoy it from their own perspective.
Theater Room
This is a guidance theater that clearly introduces the full scope of the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute.
Experience powerful visuals and sound in the three-screen theater, and enjoy an immersive scene from the Warring States period.
Projection Mapping
Projection mapping will be projected onto a topographical model of the area that served as the stage for the Battle of Nagakute.
The movements of the Nobukatsu–Ieyasu forces and Hideyoshi’s forces will be shown in chronological order, displaying the troops’ movements, formations, and key moments of attack and defense.
Hands-On Corner
You can dress up as a Sengoku warlord with easy-to-wear jinbaori and a helmet, and enjoy taking photos. We also offer game-like activities that anyone can enjoy, such as a matchlock gun experience using digital technology.
Permanent Exhibition
In the folding screen commentary section, in addition to the reconstruction process, you can also view enlarged details of the screen.
