This museum's permanent exhibit displays around 10,000 rare coins and bank notes, ranging from Japan's first circulated coinage to large and small oval gold coins called oban and koban, in addition to modern day bank notes. The museum collection also features rare currencies from around the world, such the world's oldest currency in the form of Shang dynasty cowrie shells or Egyptian silver coins stamped with the figure of Cleopatra. In the ukiyo-e woodblock print corner, you can appreciate 50 to 60 Hiroshige Utagawa ukiyo-e prints that change according to a seasonal theme.
