Kigakurin Banshoji Temple
It was founded by Oda Nobuhide, the father of Oda Nobunaga, as the family temple of the Oda clan, and was moved to its current location in Osu in 1610, when Nagoya Castle was being built.
Traditional karakuri mechanical puppets recreate scenes of Nobunaga tossing incense at his father's memorial service and performing the Kowaka-mai dance before departing for the Battle of Okehazama.
In spring 2017, the temple buildings, including the “Hakuryukan,” were reopened after renovation. At scheduled times, an immersive audiovisual show themed around “rebirth” combines light, water, sound, and projection effects centered on the temple’s White Dragon monument.
The 28th of each month is the temple's ennichi (monthly temple fair day). A traditional mochi-pounding event known as “Migawari Mochitsuki”is held in the precincts, and freshly pounded mochi is served free of charge to visitors.
