This exhibition is a further expansion of the “Living Things: Living with Edo-Tokyo Animals” exhibition, which was co-hosted by the Tokyo Edo-Tokyo Museum and the Japanese Cultural Center in Paris in 2022. In addition to the works exhibited in Paris from the Edo-Tokyo Museum's collection, there will be an even richer collection of works and materials showing the relationship between animals and people.
Also, at the Aichi venue, there will be a special exhibition focusing on images of animals representing good fortune. You can see paintings depicting auspicious animals such as “cranes” and “haha birds (haha birds)” from early modern paintings at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art (Kimura Teizo Collection).
Please enjoy this exhibition introducing the relationships between humans and animals in the urban spaces of Edo and Tokyo through various works of art and crafts.
