The 28th Nippon Domannaka Festival
Held in the heart of Japan amid the height of summer in Nagoya, Nippon Domannaka Matsuri (commonly known as Domatsuri) is one of Japan’s largest dance festivals. Around 200 teams from Japan and abroad gather to showcase dances rich in regional character, making it a participatory festival that anyone can join.
Domatsuri’s greatest hallmark is that each team expresses the pride of its hometown through dance. Set to music that rhythmically arranges the evocative culture of each region, the teams deliver dazzling performances in splendid costumes. This year, the festival will be held at 16 venues across Nagoya City. Enjoy the powerful performances at these welcoming venues filled with hospitality.
In summer, “Domatsuri”; in autumn, “Tele Domatsuri”
“Tele Domatsuri,” born during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, will be held for the 7th time this year. Videos of performances filmed in front of local famous spots and landmarks are broadcast online. Each work, filmed to highlight the unique character of regions across Japan, is full of individuality, making it feel as though you are traveling around the world from in front of your screen. Tele Domatsuri has grown into one of the world’s largest online events and was also selected for the 2022 Japan Event Awards (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award). The first three days will be held online, and for the final two days, the festival will leap off the screen and into Aichi Expo Memorial Park (Moricoro Park), where an autumn Domatsuri will be held. In addition to team performances, there will also be team PR booths and regional product fairs. Under clear autumn skies, enjoy a version of Domatsuri in the spacious Moricoro Park that offers a different flavor from summer.
Because it is in person, you can savor the luxury of the moment and the thrill of the atmosphere. Because it is online, the possibilities and expressive power expand.
