[1] Nagoya Castle

In 1610 (Keicho 15), Tokugawa Ieyasu began construction of Nagoya Castle as the residence of his ninth son, Yoshinao. Although it was destroyed in wartime air raids, in 1959 (Showa 34) the five-story main keep and the smaller keep, crowned with golden shachihoko, were rebuilt.

The “Nagoya Omotenashi Busho-tai,” which helped spark the nationwide boom in samurai performance groups, welcomes visitors inside the castle every day. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, they also perform “Omotenashi Enbu” demonstrations.

In addition, the 10-year restoration of the Honmaru Palace has been completed, and it has been fully open to the public since 2018 (Heisei 30).

[2] Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER

Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER is a sightseeing tower built in 1954 as Japan’s first consolidated radio tower. After undergoing its first full-scale renovation since opening, it held its grand reopening on September 18, 2020! In December 2022, it was designated a National Important Cultural Property, the first tower in Japan to receive this designation.

[3] Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art

Located on the 10th floor of the Aichi Arts Center, which opened in 1992, the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art houses a collection of Japanese and international artworks from the early 20th century to the present, presented in its collection exhibitions. It also regularly holds special exhibitions featuring a variety of artistic trends and artists.

[4] FUJI Nagoya Science Museum (Exhibition Rooms Only)

A comprehensive science museum featuring the “FUJI Sky Dome,” one of the world’s largest planetarium domes with an inner diameter of 35 meters. In addition to its exterior design that emphasizes the dome’s spherical form, the museum offers around 270 exhibits, including large-scale, highly entertaining displays where visitors can experience the wonders of nature firsthand, such as a simulated polar environment in a minus-30-degree room and a 9-meter-tall artificial tornado.

[5] Nagoya Sword Museum

The Nagoya Sword Museum “Nagoya Touken World” embodies a concept befitting the Sakae Honmachi-dori area, which has formed the cultural foundation of the great city of Nagoya for over 400 years.

It exhibits a large number of swords, suits of armor, and other items that have survived since ancient times and are valuable historical materials, ranging from Important Cultural Properties to pieces praised as artworks of which Japan is proud before the world.

[6] Ōsu Engeijō

Ōsu Engeijō, the only yose theater in the Chukyo area. It was unfortunately forced to close in February 2014, but after major renovation work, people united by a strong love for Ōsu and the performing arts came together anew, and with “tradition,” “innovation,” and “continuity” as their guiding principles, the renewed Ōsu Engeijō reopened in September 2015.
From the 1st to the 7th of each month, it hosts the only regular yose performances in the Chubu region; from the 8th to the end of the month, the venue is available for a variety of other performances.

[7] Tokugawa Art Museum

This museum houses over 10,000 art objects centered on the personal effects of Tokugawa Ieyasu, along with treasured items passed down through generations beginning with Yoshinao, the first head of the Owari Tokugawa family (Ieyasu’s ninth son), the so-called “daimyo furnishings.” It boasts a rich variety, exceptional quality, and excellent state of preservation, including 9 National Treasures such as the National Treasure *The Tale of Genji Illustrated Scrolls*, as well as 60 Important Cultural Properties. The main building is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.

[8] Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens

Don’t miss the Asian tropical rainforest area that opened in 2023 and the new jaguar enclosure!
With the largest number of species kept in Japan, from tiny medaka fish to large Asian elephants, you can observe a wide variety of animals.
At the Gorilla and Chimpanzee House, home to Shabani, the handsome and famous western lowland gorilla, as well as diverse exhibition facilities such as Zoosium (the Asian elephant house) and the koala house, you can do more than just observe the animals—there are also plenty of educational exhibits introducing their ecology and habitats. [9] Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori Hall

The Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori Museum was established to preserve and promote the unique shibori culture of this region, and introduces shibori in a wide range of ways, including exhibitions and live demonstrations of historically and artistically valuable products and materials. Arimatsu, moreover, is known as the most beautiful post town along the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, and its streetscape, depicted by ukiyo-e artists such as Hokusai and Hiroshige, still lives on today, nurturing the culture of shibori and conveying the beauty of Japan to the present.

[10] Nagoya Port Aquarium

In the South Building, under the theme “Journey to Antarctica,” creatures living in five different bodies of water along the route traveled by the Antarctic research vessel Fuji from Japan to Antarctica are introduced together with their natural environments.
In the North Building, under the theme “A Far-Long Journey of 3.5 Billion Years—Animals That Returned to the Sea,” bottlenose dolphins, belugas, and others are kept and exhibited.
At Japan’s largest main pool, equipped with stands accommodating about 3,000 people, performances are held to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of the animals’ ecology and behavior.

[11] SCMAGLEV and Railway Park

Opened on March 14, 2011. Centered on the Tokaido Shinkansen, it introduces “the progress of high-speed rail technology” through displays of railway vehicles ranging from conventional lines to superconducting maglev trains. It also features an elaborate railway diorama and a Shinkansen driving simulator, allowing visitors to enjoyably learn about how railways work and the history of their development.

[12] Noritake Garden (Craft Center / Noritake Museum)

Opened to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ceramics manufacturer Noritake. On the lush grounds, visitors can enjoy touring the ceramics factory and a museum exhibiting Old Noritake, as well as trying their hand at ceramic painting. There is also shopping at Noritake’s directly operated store, which offers a full range of tableware and dining-related goods, along with a restaurant and café that use Noritake tableware.

[13] Toyotomi Brothers! Nagoya Nakamura Taiga Drama Museum

Toyotomi Museum is a multi-purpose facility that opened in Nakamura Park, a place associated with the Toyotomi brothers Hideyoshi and Hidenaga, to coincide with the 2026 Taiga drama “Toyotomi Brothers!”.

At the “Toyotomi Brothers! Nagoya Nakamura Taiga Drama Museum,” you can immerse yourself more deeply in the world of the drama.

In addition to the “Taiga Drama Museum,” the facility also includes a museum shop and a special exhibition, “So Good Even Warlords Groan! Sengoku Meals × Nagoya Cuisine,” showcasing Nagoya’s history and culture.

In the Automobile Gallery, the history of automobiles from the birth of the gasoline-powered car at the end of the 19th century to the present day is displayed chronologically through about 150 vehicles. The Cultural Gallery includes the “Automobile Culture Archive,” which exhibits about 4,000 items of automobile-related cultural materials such as posters, toy cars, and car mascots. The library, which houses a collection of automobile-related materials, also includes the “Vehicles Picture Book Library,” featuring picture books about vehicles for children.
