Nagoya Japanese Sweets Special Feature
Nagoya is full of shops selling savory Japanese sweets. And there's a reason; successive generations of lords from 400 years ago relished tea ceremony, and as tea is drunk with sweets, Japanese confectioneries became plentiful.
This special feature highlights top Japanese confectioners from those with roots back to the time of Nagoya's ancient lords to ones beloved by local Nagoyans.
Japanese sweets are known for their easy digestive properties and athletes even eat them as a source of energy before going out on the field. So, have some for yourself and spend a fun, energetic day touring Nagoya!

Danjiri

During a festival for Minami Shingusha Shrine, the only shrine within Atsuta Jingu Shrine's precincts to be painted with a vibrant red cinnabar, two parade floats come out: the Danjiri Float and the Oyama Float. The Danjiri confection is a variety of dorayaki, two pancakes with adzuki bean paste sandwiched in between. It is made image of the Danjiri Float's wheels and uses quality Dainagon adzuki beans grown in Hokkaido for a gently sweet bean paste and fulfillingly fluffy pancakes.

Red Bean Rice

Small clumps of rice steamed with adzuki beans are lain out like a folding fan. This dish is often served in times of celebration, but many patrons purchase it for any occasion as its delicious flavor has long been loved by locals.
The beans are procured from Hokkaido while the glutinous rice too is home-grown in Japan for the most pronounced savory flavors.
